hometown DC is series of installations—designed as interactive “cubes”—being showcased at a DC Public Library in every ward and includes free events focusing on experiences and reflections from the people who call the District home. Verbal Gymnastics Theater Company will bring recorded memories to life using a modified version of their signature Playback Theater method. The company will perform a selection of hometown DC oral history interviewee stories through movement, music, and drama.
This program is part of By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils in collaboration with local partners. The initiative was developed by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
