In partnership with Michigan Humanities, Peter White Public Library in Marquette will host Great Michigan Read author Curtis Chin from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on May 13 for a meal and moderated conversation with the owner of a local Thai restaurant, the Rice Paddy. Moderated by Elizabeth Peterson, the free event will foster conversation about storytelling and Asian American identity and culture, and spark discussion about the cultural power of foodways. Pre-registration is required.
This program from Iowa Humanities is part of By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils in collaboration with local partners. The initiative was developed by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
