Oregon Humanities will present an onstage conversation about the stories nations tell and the ways they shape our lives with Colum McCann, an Irish author and cofounder of the storytelling nonprofit Narrative 4. Onstage with Adam Davis, McCann will explore where national myths originate and the power they carry, how a country’s self-narrative diverges from the stories told about it, and what it means to consider storytelling itself a democratic act.
This program is part of By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils in collaboration with local partners. The initiative was developed by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
