#HumCitizen: Journalism, Democracy and the Informed Citizen

This year, the Maine Humanities Council (MHC) will present a new statewide initiative, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation through the Federation of State Humanities Councils entitled “Journalism, Democracy, and the Informed Citizen,” Entitled “Journalism in Public Life.” The initiative will foster public discussion on the role that journalists play in creating informed citizens and the conditions necessary for democracy to flourish. Partnering with scholars from Maine colleges and universities as well as journalists and editors from Portland Press Herald and Bangor Daily News, the council will present three public forums; Let’s Talk About It discussion series, World in Your Library speaker series, and a re-grant program for Maine nonprofits.
