PROGRAM: Leadership Anchorage

Presented by:
Alaska Humanities Forum
Local Partner: Nonprofits, Other Subject: Professional Development Audience: All

Founded in 1997, the Leadership Anchorage program focuses on leadership development through the lens of the humanities by using diverse group experiences as well as personal reflection, all in the context of the dynamic issues leaders of Alaska currently face. Currently, more than 300 Leadership Anchorage alumni serve as leaders in a wide array of businesses, public agencies, and non-profit organizations statewide.

Participants proceed through ten rigorous, full-day sessions of interviews, speaker presentations, readings, and group activities designed to facilitate the development of critical leadership skill sets. The keystones of the program include: one-on-one mentoring with an individual jointly selected by participants and the program leader, a group project fulfilling an expressed need in the community, and a series of readings and exercises that bring the humanities to life.
