History Day is a program that transforms the way history is taught and learned in classrooms.  The American Saoma state competition mirrors the national competition in its curriculum and rules, formats and approach, as well as the annual theme. Eligible formats are as follows:  Research Paper, Individual Exhibit, Group Exhibit, Individual Documentary, Group Documentary, Individual Website, Group Website, Individual Performance, and Group Performance. Every year students submit entries to the state competition, which is usually scheduled in the month of February. Prior to February, each participating school hosts a local competition and the top two entries from each category is then submitted for the state competition.  Overall winners from the Junior and Senior Division represent American Samoa at the National History Day Competition in June of every year, at the University of Maryland.
