NHC 18: Call for “Moving the Needle” Working Group Participants

July 20, 2018

Moving the Needle: Beyond Dialogue is a working group that will meet at this year’s National Humanities Conference in New Orleans, LA. If you are interested in joining, please send a statement of interest to Leondra at leondra@mnhum.org by COB Friday, August 10, 2018.

See below for more information and the call.

Moving the Needle: Beyond Dialogue

Dialogue is central to both public and academic expressions of the humanities and we, as practitioners, have an unwavering commitment to learning from diverse communities. We value equitable, inclusive and accessible programs that exude diversity even as we struggle to reach many intersectional audiences. This working group will move beyond dialogue to explore how an interracial, interethnic, and intergenerational partnership produced an award winning traveling exhibition entitled ‘Why Treaties Matter;’ and how national membership organizations like GeoFunders and the American Alliance for Museums are helping their members advance DEIA.

If you’re considering or have begun equity work that includes targeted hiring or a commitment to diverse board selections, community led collaborations or partnerships, and nontraditional grant guidelines or requirements, you are invited to join this working group. We hope to learn why and how you engaged with this work and how it might be duplicated and adapted for wider use.

Please send a 1-2 paragraph interest statement outlining why you want to join, and how this working group can advance your program or process to leondra@mnhum.org by COB Friday August 10, 2018.
