The Jefferson-Regional and Virginia Center for the Book, a program of Virginia Humanities, worked together to coordinate participation in a global event in September. The Worldwide Reading initiative was launched by the International Literature Festival Berlin and called for cultural and political institutions: schools, media, and individuals, to give a public reading of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ 30 articles on September 6, 2017. The reading took place at 5:30 pm at the Free Speech Wall on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, VA.
