PROGRAM: Celebration of the Humanities

Presented by:
Rhode Island Council for the Humanities
Subject: Other Audience: All

The 2017 Celebration of the Humanities’ theme is “Proximity” and will honor Judge Judith C. Savage, Len Cabral, the Little Compton Historical Society’s “If Jane Should Want to be Sold” exhibit and programs, and Valerie Tutson for their achievements, creativity, innovation, and scholarship. The event will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Providence Public Library and will be a high-profile gathering of the Rhode Island community, including more than 300 nonprofit, government, legal, higher education, and business leaders, scholars, and community members from across the state. Proceeds support the council and help strengthen public history, cultural heritage, civic education, and community engagement by and for all Rhode Islanders.

These outstanding honorees draw upon the power of the humanities to bridge communities and build understanding. The theme highlights how the humanities draw us together through stories that affirm shared values.
