National History Day pulls students out of the textbook to learn about history firsthand. Competitions occur at the regional, state, and national levels. National History Day is a program of Georgia Humanities and LaGrange College in partnership with Mercer University.
The purpose of National History Day is to encourage middle and high school students to engage more deeply in the historical process, through research and presentation of that research, along with analysis. Thousands of students participate each year in self-directed projects under the guidance of a sponsoring teacher. They choose their subject matter and final presentation vehicle: exhibition, website, or performance.
The competitions occur at the regional, state, and national levels.
The 2017 state contest took place on April 22, 2017 at Mercer University, Macon and the National History Day contest took place June 11-15 at the University of Maryland, College Park.
