The Rhode Island Council for the Humanities’ Mini Grant Program for requests up to $2,000 invites individual researchers, nonprofit organizations, and schools to apply for funding in support of public humanities projects, documentary film, civic education initiatives, and individual research. Deadlines for grant applications are: November 1, February 1, May 1, and August 1, 2017.

Past mini grants have supported projects like photographer Mary Beth Meehan’s Undocumented Immigrants: Putting a Face on Invisible Lives, which focused on the lives and living arrangements of undocumented immigrants in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. The project consisted of a series of photographs of the interiors of immigrants’ homes—bedrooms, kitchen tables, doorways, and living spaces—with an aim of humanizing and making visible people who, for legal and political reasons, must remain invisible.
