Funding cultural programs around the state is one way Ohio Humanities helps create and sustain vibrant communities. Funded projects can take many forms: documentaries, exhibitions, public talks, book festivals, and digital media.
In addition to the council’s General Grants Program, Ohio Humanities has three special grant programs: Cultural Heritage Tourism, Media, and Educator Enrichment.
MEDIA GRANTS: Max $20,000
These grants are reviewed twice a year. Successful projects will have an Ohio connection, humanities perspectives, and a plan for broad distribution. Radio and television documentaries should be targeted for public broadcast. Applicants should submit a full draft outline prior to the deadline.
Deadlines: January 5, 2018 and July 13, 2018
MEDIA PLANNING GRANTS: Max $2,000
Ohio Humanities considers media planning grant proposals on a monthly basis. Media planning activities include research, script development, and consulting with humanities professionals.
Deadlines are the first business day of each month and at least eight weeks prior to the start date of the funded activity.
CULTURAL HERITAGE TOURISM GRANTS: Max $20,000
Ohio Humanities reviews cultural heritage tourism implementation grant proposals twice a year. Successful projects explore history, highlight culture, and foster appreciation of local tourism assets. Proposed projects should work towards enhancing community life and focus on tourism as a learning opportunity for travelers and local residents.
Deadlines for Cultural Heritage Tourism Grants $5,000 and above are: January 5, 2018 and July 13, 2018.
Deadlines for Cultural Heritage Tourism Grants $2,000 to $5,000 are: September 15, 2017, December 15, 2017, March 15, 2018 and June 15, 2018.
CULTURAL HERITAGE TOURISM PLANNING GRANTS: Max $2,000
Ohio Humanities reviews cultural heritage tourism planning grant proposals on a monthly basis. These planning grants support convening stakeholders to assess potential project ideas, consulting with humanities professionals, identifying interpretive themes and building regional cultural heritage infrastructure.
Deadlines are the first business day of each month with at least eight weeks in between submission and the start of the funded activity.
EDUCATOR ENRICHMENT GRANTS: $5,001 to $20,000
Ohio Humanities supports educator enrichment grant proposals throughout the year. Educator enrichment grants are designed to enhance teachers’ understanding and appreciation of the humanities. Projects should provide a rich humanities experience that enhances success in the K-12 classroom. Educator enrichment projects provide opportunities to build partnerships and leverage external funding, therefore, applicants are encouraged to seek additional project support from local foundations and other sources.
Deadlines for Grants under $2,000 are the first business day of the month and at least eight week before the start of the funded activity. Grant applications for $2,001 and $5,000 are due September 15, 2017, December 15, 2017, March 15, 2018 and June 15, 2018. For funding between $5,001 and $20,000 the next deadline is January 5, 2018.
