Every two years, Humanities Montana and the Montana governor give Governor’s Humanities Awards to individuals who demonstrate a history of excellence in the humanities. Though Humanities Montana has honored excellence in the humanities since 1984, the first Governor’s Humanities Award was conferred in 1995 by Governor Marc Ricicot and Humanities Montana (then the Montana Committee for the Humanities) at a ceremony in Missoula.
